Château de Hautefort
The medieval fortress, probably built on the site of a Roman camp has been turned into a residence in the 17th century. Leaving gradually its defensive aspect for a more classical architecture, the castle reflects the rank and power of the Marquis de Hautefort. Hautefort offers a remarkable collection of furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries.
In the 19th century, Count Choulot draws French gardens and creates the English park that provides different views of the countryside and surrounding villages. The boxwood garden, elegantly arranged around the castle, takes a major part to the fame of the area and the pleasure of his visit.
Throughout the year, cultural events are proposed to visitors : exhibitions, open air cinema, art workshops for children, treasure hunt, etc..
and finally, the wednesday nights in july and august, enjoy the "night at the Château" : a different way of visiting...
